Cloughjordan

Noralynn's great-grandmother Hannah Slack lived here (we've researched the family history).  We hopped a train from Dublin, changed at Ballybrophy, and rode a little train to the Cloughjordan station.

Cloughjordan is a quiet country town.  There Slack family left long ago.  It seemed like most people made their living off the land, including raising Irish Beef.

Thomas MacDonagh was an Irish patriot from Cloughjordan (but from the time after Hannah left).  We visited the Heritage Centre in town with much information about him, and his part in the 1916 Easter Rising.

Hannah was baptised in St. Kieran's Church.  It's Church of Ireland (Anglican).

There's a new development in town:  the eco-village has lots of community gardens, and a passive solar installation.
We walked through the village, then out of town to a nearby forest.

President Obama has roots in a nearby town.  They're still celebrating this.

We returned to Dublin in time for a late supper.  We then climbed the half-dozen flights of stairs up to our hotel room.
