Drachenfels

A cog rail train carried us up the steep incline to the summit of Drachenfels above the Rhine (it's the same system as the train that ascends Pikes' Peak in Colorado).  The view from the top is spectacular (we could barely see Cologne cathedral on the horizon).
Ruins of a medieval castle capped the summit, and grapes grew in the valley below.

Drachenburg castle was built by a wealthy financier in the Victorian era.  It's been beautifully restored.

Princess Ina would like to thank you for your visit.
