Duisburg

We're staying here with Ina and her family. Just like ours, their AFS family includes past, present and future exchange students... and host parents of their own kids!

Our first stop on our tour of Duisburg was the hospital.  Ina wisely insisted that Noralynn's arm needed attention.  It turned out to have been broken in two places by her fall in Leipzig.  So we walked out of the clinic late Sunday night with her arm in a splint/cast.  We'll need to look for other clinics during our trip to have the arm examined again:  if it continues to heal, the cast can be reduced, and eventually removed.

Three beautiful people and one ugly statue
Duisburg is a large, formerly industrial city that's trying to re-invent itself.  It has an old port, a lively shopping district, and what Ina thinks may be the ugliest public statue in the world.

Ina insisted that no tour of Duisburg would be complete without an introduction to spaghetti ice.  This is extruded Italian ice cream that's sculpted to resemble pasta dishes.  Yummy, but in the heat the artistry disappeared quickly.
