Chloé's brother Robin has been in Avoire all this week at a chess tournament; her father has been with him for support. We drove there so we could meet them. Avoire has one of France's nuclear plants, which was raising pillars of steam. We met Robin and his father for lunch at a small restaurant. The meal was great, but the service was so leisurely that even some of the French diners grew impatient (although things were better when coffee and dessert arrived).
We visited two castles before returning home. Uss

Château d'Azay-le-Rideau was a showpiece castle, designed to impress
rather than defend. The restoration, still in progress, was certainly impressive. The lovely grounds afforded great views of the castle.
